Kathmandu— Government spokesperson Sasmita Pokharel has stated that the Tribhuvan University (TU) cricket ground will not be demolished.

Pokharel, who is also the Minister of Education, conveyed this decision while announcing the outcomes of Monday’s Cabinet meeting. He mentioned that he had discussions with the Vice-Chancellor of TU earlier that morning and that coordination is underway to extend the lease period.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had leased land from TU to develop an international-standard cricket ground. However, TU had requested the land be vacated as the lease period had expired.

Following TU’s request to vacate the land, there were public concerns about the potential demolition of the cricket ground. Addressing questions from journalists, spokesperson Pokharel clarified, “Both CAN and TU are government entities. Discussions are ongoing regarding the lease extension. The ground will not be demolished.”
