Trading Halted After Second Circuit Breaker in NEPSE Index

Kathmandu — The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has triggered a second positive circuit breaker.

Trading was halted for 20 minutes shortly after the market opened on Sunday after the NEPSE index surged by four percent. When trading resumed at 11:21 am, the index hit the circuit breaker for the second time.

The NEPSE index jumped by 135 points, or five percent, reaching 2,848 points. Following the second circuit, trading has been suspended for another 40 minutes.

According to the circuit breaker rules currently in force, trading is halted for 20 minutes if the NEPSE index rises or falls by four percent within the first hour of trading. If the index moves by five percent during the second hour, trading is suspended for 40 minutes.

If the index fluctuates by six percent during the third hour or thereafter, trading for the rest of the day is suspended.
