The President receives the final report of elections

The Election Commission (EC) Thursday submitted the final results of the elections held on November 20 to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari. Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya submitted the report on behalf of the EC.

In all, 275 members –165 under first past the post and 110 under the proportional representation system –were elected to the House of Representatives. Similarly, 550 members –330 under the FPTP and 220 members under the PR system were elected to seven provincial legislature.

President Bhandari thanked the commission for the successful completion of the election.

With this constitutional formality over, the care-taker government will now be recommending the date for summoning the House of Representatives in session, and beginning with the oath ceremony will also mark the end of the life of the present government.

That means the process of formation of the new government will begin immediately.

Pashupati Shumsher Rana of the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party who is also the eldest member of the House will act as the pro-tem speaker, and will administer oath to the newly elected members, and conduct other essential business of the House.
