Switzerland defeats Bosnia 4-1 in World Cup 2026 qualifier match

Switzerland secured their first victory in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers with a thrilling win. In the match held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, USA, Switzerland defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina with a convincing 4-1 scoreline, earning a clear 3 points.

Johan Manzambi was instrumental in Switzerland’s win, scoring two goals, while Ruben Vargas and captain Granit Xhaka each contributed a goal. For Bosnia, Ermin Mahmic managed to score a consolation goal.

The first half of the match was competitive, but the second half saw a flurry of goals. Johan Manzambi gave Switzerland an early lead with a goal in the 74th minute.

In the 80th minute, Bosnia’s Tarik Muharemovic received a straight red card for a foul, reducing Bosnia to 10 players. With the numerical advantage, Switzerland dominated the game. Ruben Vargas doubled the lead in the 84th minute, and Johan scored his second goal in the 90th minute, putting Switzerland in a strong 3-0 position.

In injury time of the second half, Bosnia’s Ermin Mahmic scored a goal in an attempt to make a comeback, but it was too late.

In the final moments of the match, a foul by a Bosnian player inside the box awarded Switzerland a penalty, which Granit Xhaka converted with ease, sealing a 4-1 victory for the team.

With this win, Switzerland climbed to the top of Group B with 4 points from two matches. Previously, Switzerland had been held to a 1-1 draw by Qatar in their first match.

Bosnia, on the other hand, had played a 1-1 draw against Canada in their first match and now has only 1 point.
