Speaker’s election: Ruling Coalition and NC to contest

As the consensus bid failed, the House will decide who will be the Speaker tomorrow.

Election for the speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled for 11 am Thursday.

Dev Raj Ghimire from CPN-UML has registered his nomination for the election of the Speaker of the HoR representing the ruling coalition.

The candidature of Ghimire has been proposed by Subash Nembang (CPN-UML) and backed by CPN (MC), Hitraj Pandey, Rabi Lamichhane (RSP) and Rajendra Ligden (RPP).

Ishwari Devi Neupane from Nepali Congress has registered her candidacy. She has been proposed by party General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma and backed by CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Prakash Jwala.

The Speaker should be elected among the HoR members within 15 days of the first meeting of the federal parliament, according to the constitutional provision.
