Kathmandu – From Sunday, the terms of Speaker Devaraj Ghimire and Deputy Speaker Indira Ranamagar have come to an end. Although the House of Representatives was dissolved on Bhadra 27 following the Gen‑Z movement, their positions continued due to constitutional provisions. However, late Sunday night, their tenure expired under Article 91(6)(k) of the Constitution of Nepal.

According to constitutional rules, when the House of Representatives is dissolved, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker can remain in office only until the day before nomination filing for the next election. With the proportional representation candidacy filing underway for the Falgun 21 election (March 5, 2026), their tenure automatically expired at midnight.

Ghimire was elected Speaker on Magh 5, 2079 (January 19, 2023). Now that their constitutional terms have ended, both leaders are preparing to vacate official residence and government service privileges.
