May 29, Kathmandu: Kailash Sirohiya, Chairman and Managing Director of the Kantipur Media Group (KMG) has been released on personal bond.

His release order was issued by the Dhanusha District Police after approval of the attorney office in the face of widespread protest over his arrest allegedly for possessing multiple citizenship.

The police submitted a report to the government attorney that there was no further need to keep Sirohiya under detention. He will however be required to present himself before the investigating authorities whenever required.

Sirohiya is under treatment in Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur following severe headache and hypertension.

He was arrested last week on the basis of an anonymous complaint in Dhanusha police office that Sirohiya possessed multiple citizenship based on ‘fake’ information but the arrest followed wide spread protest from in and outside the country by journalists, right groups and U S government felt it amounted to suppression of freedom of the press and individual liberty.
