Kathmandu – Shishir Khanal, leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Foreign Minister, has decided to withdraw from the race for the General Secretary position in the party’s upcoming general convention.

In a statement released via social media, Khanal clarified that he took this step to honor the desire for party unity, institutional strengthening, and consensus in leadership.

Khanal had previously claimed the General Secretary position to develop the achievements from the party’s first historic general convention and to further strengthen the party.

However, he stated that he decided to withdraw from the candidacy to create an environment of consensus and to facilitate other aspiring colleagues.

In his statement, Khanal expressed gratitude to all the delegates from both within the country and abroad who had trusted him and voted in the central committee election. He committed to continuing his role in making the party stronger in the days to come.
