KATHMANDU – A significant weather system is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and snowfall across Nepal for three days starting tomorrow, Friday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has issued an urgent advisory warning of high-velocity winds, precipitation, and snow. According to the Authority, isolated areas in the hilly and mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to experience heavy rain and snow on Friday afternoon.

Following this, on Friday evening, windstorms accompanied by rain are expected in the Terai regions of Lumbini Province, including Dang and Nepalgunj.

The weather system is forecasted to move eastward by Saturday. The NDRRMA warned that eastern Nepal, specifically districts around Biratnagar, Dhankuta, and Dharan, could face extreme wind speeds reaching up to 119 kilometers per hour.

Since Nepal is currently in the pre-monsoon season, the Authority cautioned that these intense winds pose significant risks, including uprooted trees, damage to weak structures and roofs, and potential disruptions to electricity and communication services.

In light of these risks, the Authority has urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors. Residents are advised to keep windows and doors securely closed during the storms and to turn off all fire sources to prevent accidents. For those traveling, the NDRRMA recommends pulling over to a safe location until conditions improve. Furthermore, people in crowded areas are urged to remain calm and move toward safety in an organized manner to avoid panic or stampedes.
