The Supreme Court has annulled the appointment of Uddhav Thapa as the Chief Minister in Koshi province.

A full bench of the apex court comprising justices Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, Ananda Mohan Bhattaria and Til Prasad Shrestha today ruled that the appointment of Thapa (Nepali Congress) as the Chief Minister was illegal.

Thapa had earned a majority in the province legislature by submitting the list of his supporters that included House speaker Baburam Gauram.

Former Chief Minister and UML leader Hikmat Bahadur Karki had filed a writ petition at Supreme Court, saying the appointment process of Chief Minister was unconstitutional.
