Kathmandu – Chair of the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee, Samiksha Baskota, has urged the government to swiftly conclude the pending tasks related to transitional justice.

Speaking at an event in Lalitpur on Thursday, Chair Baskota emphasized the need for the government to complete all outstanding tasks related to transitional justice and human rights. She stated that the committee is prepared to play a coordinating role in bringing about necessary legal reforms to achieve this. Baskota committed to working on legislation that addresses the issues hindering transitional justice resolution, in consultation with stakeholders. She highlighted the government’s commitment to transitional justice and stressed the urgency of reaching a conclusion soon.

Chair Baskota remarked, “Our commitment to various human rights issues is one hundred percent. There are pending issues, whether related to truth resolution or enforced disappearances. If the current government cannot resolve these, no future government will be able to. Our commitment is one hundred percent from the government and the Ministry of Law. There are problems in the process, and we want to engage in solution-based politics. What is the solution? We want to work on that. I have informed some colleagues here—many development partners visit the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee. They suggest policy improvements in various forums. Since I have been here, this committee’s hall is open. We are ready to discuss with concerned parties. We invite you to identify where the problems are and solve them. We are here to draft laws, and we will work on that.”

Chair Baskota also asserted their commitment to drafting laws that address the country’s existing issues.
