The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), a ruling coalition member, has suggested that the relocation and systematic resettlement of landless squatters be completed by the end of Chaitra. The party has also urged the government to halt any unregulated use of bulldozers until an empowered authority is established to collect accurate data on squatters.

RSP spokesperson Manish Jha informed that this recommendation was made during the party’s secretariat meeting on Sunday. According to him, the RSP has advised the government to ensure the relocation of all squatters to safe housing by the end of Chaitra, guaranteeing basic provisions for food, shelter, and health.

Highlighting the long-standing neglect of squatter management, he mentioned that the government is currently attempting to address the issue. He claimed that the government plans to relocate citizens living in hazardous conditions along the riverbanks of the Kathmandu Valley.

He emphasized that the government is taking proactive measures to relocate people to safer areas, rather than only responding when floods occur.

He also stated that the party has urged the government to halt forced evictions in areas not constructed for illegal encroachment. The RSP stressed the need for local governments to steer their management efforts towards long-term solutions within their jurisdictions.
