Kathmandu, 12 April: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has terminated Dr Dhaka Kumar Shrestha’s party membership that automatically disqualifies him as member of parliament.

The decision was taken by the central committee of the Party chaired by Party Chief Rabi Lamichhane on the basis of recommendation by RSP Disciplinary Committee in the wake of release of an audio tape in which Dr Dhaka Kumar asks Medical Entrepreneur Durga Prasai for 20 million rupees to buy a ministerial position in charge of health.

In the audio tape –a conversation between him and medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai–he is heard asking for Rs 20 million pleading that such an amount is needed to pay to the core group members of the party to get health ministry for himself.

The Disciplinary Committee of the RSP that investigated the matter recommended that Shrestha’s membership of both the party and House of Representatives should be terminated. The Committee recommended so as it has come to the conclusion that Dr Dhaka actually made such demand from Prasai and his act constituted serious breach of party discipline and its commitment against corruption.
