Kathmandu – Gyandendra Shahi, leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s parliamentary group, stated in Monday’s House of Representatives meeting that only the Finance Minister is aware of changes in tax rates. He suggested that Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle should face charges of treason over this issue.

“There must be a thorough investigation into this matter, and charges of treason should be filed against the Finance Minister,” Shahi said during the House session on Monday.

Shahi raised concerns about how information regarding changes in tax rates was leaked, citing instances where vehicles were imported through the Korala and Rasuwagadhi checkpoints after paying taxes before the budget announcement. He called for the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee to look into the matter.

He also criticized the tendency to absolve the Finance Minister by penalizing officials, stating that such practices are unacceptable.

Approximately 1,500 BYD vehicles were suspiciously imported through the Korala and Rasuwagadhi checkpoints, allegedly evading taxes. The Armed Police Force has seized these vehicles for investigation.
