Riot in Siraha after the death of school girl

The protest of the students on the death of a school girl created chaos in Siraha. The protesters have voiced that the irresponsibility of a teacher caused the demise.

Srijana Kumari Mahara, a student from 8th grade at Sagarmatha School in Mirchaiya Municipality has died after drinking the spirit. It is said that while the girl asked for drinking water on Friday to take medicine, a teacher handed her a bottle of Mountain Dew containing spirit. The student drank it assuming water.

The protesters have disrupted the East-West highway in Mirchaiya area and have been pelting stones against police.

Nepal police fired warning shot together with tear gas so as to control the situation. As of now, the police have fired 6 rounds into the air and at least ten rounds of tear gas.

The accused teacher is taken into control for further investigation, according to Subash Budathoki, deputy superintendent of police and the spokesperson in Siraha Police.
