Rastriya Swatantra Party begins leadership election at national convention in Chitwan

Kathmandu – The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has commenced the electoral process to select new leadership during its first national convention underway in Bharatpur, Chitwan.

The RSP has announced that the election process is being advanced to choose a new central committee through the convention.

According to the preliminary public list, a total of 384 candidates have registered for various clusters and positions within the central committee.

In this election for the central committee, nine current Cabinet members have also filed their candidacies across different categories and clusters.

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has registered his candidacy from the open category in Gandaki Province, while Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has filed his candidacy in the open category as well.

Similarly, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobita Gautam have both registered their candidacies from Bagmati Province, with Shrestha competing in the open category for Bagmati Province.

Additionally, several ministers are contesting from the geographical and inclusive clusters. Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities, and Social Security Sita Wadi has filed her candidacy from the Karnali geographical area, and Health and Food Safety Minister Nisha Mehta has registered from the Koshi geographical area.

In the open and other clusters, Education and Sports Minister Sasmita Pokharel has filed for an open central member position, Agriculture, Forest and Environment Minister Geeta Chaudhary has registered from the Sudurpaschim open category, and Youth, Labour and Employment Minister Ramji Yadav has filed his candidacy from the open Madhesi group for a central member position, as mentioned in the preliminary list released by the RSP.
