Ram Chandra Poudel elected as the President  

Ram Chandra Poudel has won the presidential race defeating his only rival Subash Chandra Nembang with substantial votes.

As the counting was over, the National Election Commission declared that Poudel secured 566 votes -voting weightage 33,803 against Nembang’s 260- voting weightage 15, 518. Of the Electoral Collage consisting 882 eligible voters, 313 of the federal parliament and 518 members of the provincial assemblies cast their votes in the Presidential election today.

The Federal Parliament has 79 weighted votes, and the Province Assembly 48.

Poudel will be occupying Sheetal Niwas as the third president of the Republic Nepal. He was fielded jointly by the Nepali Congress and Maoist Center and supported by eight other parties -the CPN (Unified Socialist), the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, the Rastriya Swatantra Party, the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal, Janamat Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, Rastriya Janamorcha and Nepal Samajbadi Party.

Whereas Nembang was fielded by CPN-UML.
