Kathmandu, 30 Aug: The Kathmandu District Court has approved police demand to have Rahul Mahara in judicial custody for five days in connection with the investigation of the Nine kg gold smuggling case.

Rahul, son of Maoist leader Krishns Bahadur Mahara has been suspected to have links with gold smugglers. He was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau from Kathmandu in the afternoon today.

The investigation by the CIB itself revealed that Rahul along with his father Krihshna Bahadur Mahara had frequently contacted Chinese businessmen involved in smuggling of 9 kg gold disguised as electronic cigarettes (Vape) last year.

The arrest of Rahul today follows large scale criticism by the media alleging that the omission of father, son duo from the investigation list was ‘deliberate’.
