Rabi Lamichhane obtains citizenship

Rabi Lamichhane has taken Nepali Citizenship Sunday afternoon after completing the due process at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu to reacquire the citizenship.

Lamichhane, a former Deputy Prime Minister and RSP’s Chief had been disqualified as member of the House of Representative by the Supreme Court with the verdict of holding his Nepali citizenship ‘invalid’.

The Constitution bench of SC headed by acting chief justice Hari Krishna Karki Friday declared that Lamichhane did not go through the due process to reacquire his Nepali citizenship after he had renounced his U.S. citizenship.

Lamichhane is all set to regain the party membership and party chief’s post as he has gained citizenship. Rastirya Swatantra Party’s central committee meeting, scheduled at 3 pm Sunday, is about to make the decision.
