Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of launching a deadly attack on a student dormitory in an area of eastern Ukraine under Russian control, pledging to retaliate.

According to Putin, the attack occurred at night in the city of Starobilsk in the Luhansk region, resulting in the death of six people and injuring 39 others. Additionally, 15 people are still missing.

The Ukrainian military has stated that it targeted the headquarters of Russia’s ‘Rubicon’ drone military unit in Starobilsk. However, Ukraine has not clarified whether the building Russia claims was attacked is indeed the military headquarters.

Speaking in Moscow, Putin said, “There were no military facilities, intelligence service offices, or any related services there.”

At an event held at his Kremlin residence on Friday, he added, “Therefore, there is no basis to claim that the building was hit due to our air defense or electronic warfare systems.”

He has ordered the Russian military to prepare a ‘proposal’ on how to retaliate.

The Russian leader stated that the Ukrainian attack was carried out in three phases using 16 drones.

Russian state television also showed footage of a 19-year-old injured student named Diana Shovkun.
