Publisher’s Note: A journey of truth, accountability and dialogue

Eight years ago, Deshsanchar.com was born at a historic moment in Nepal.

Two constituent Assemblies and participating political parties had delivered the new constitution. The first General election was in the process of being held carrying hopes of millions that it would define our nation’s future.

People were optimistic and therefore condoned some major lapses in the peace and constitution making process. There was visible external influence in the internal issues and exclusion of a huge section of the political forces.

As a new History was in the making and signs of aberrations visible, we decided to take a plunge to contribute to the country’s course to positively and professionally.

Deshsanchar.com that has now completed eight years has unwaveringly acted in promoting democracy, its values and process, making every effort to hold the principle of probity and accountability in public life.

From the very beginning, our mission has been clear to serve as a platform of truth, accountability and dialogue. We have stood witness to Nepal’s political transitions, social transformations and the aspirations of its people. Through challenges and uncertainties, Deshsanchar.com has remained committed to independent journalism-amplifying voices that matter and holding power to account.

But once again, serious questions have arisen in the cherished path of the nation. The elected parliament, with two years of its term remaining, was dissolved and fresh elections declared. This has raised deep concerns about the practice of democracy and the stability of institutions. Will elections alone make democracy stronger? Or does democracy also require institutional culture, accountability, transparency and the trust of the people? These are questions that every conscious citizen must reflect upon today and hold the rulers to account.

As Chairman, I take pride in the resilience of our team and the trust of our readers. Together, we have built more than a news portal-we have built a community of informed citizens who care about the country’s future.
