Kathmandu — President Ram Chandra Paudel has consulted constitutional and legal experts at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, regarding various ordinances recommended by the government.

The government recommended six ordinances for approval at once, prompting President Paudel to seek consultations. The government plans to introduce ordinances to annul political, constitutional, and legal appointments in over 150 state bodies, which has sparked opposition.

After opposition parties pressured President Paudel not to approve the ordinances, he consulted with constitutional and legal experts. However, President Paudel approved an ordinance amending the Cooperative Act on Thursday.

According to the President’s Office, on Thursday, Paudel consulted legal experts Badri Bahadur Karki, Mahadev Yadav, Purnaman Shakya, Bhimarjun Acharya, and Tikaram Bhattarai.

Senior advocates knowledgeable in law and the constitution reportedly advised the President that he does not have the authority to halt ordinances recommended by the government by delving into their content.
