Kathmandu – Prime Minister Balendra Shah has stated that the government is intensifying efforts to remove unauthorized encroachments along the riverbanks and government-owned lands in the Kathmandu Valley and to make permanent arrangements for genuine landless people.

Writing on social media, Prime Minister Shah mentioned that the government has taken serious note of the attempts to deliberately spread fear and create confusion against this management process, which is being advanced in accordance with legal procedures.

To achieve a long-term solution to this issue, the government has annulled some obstructive clauses of the Land Act 2021 through an ordinance, he said.

With this legal barrier removed, the process of collecting digital records, verifying details, and preparing clear documentation for genuine landless citizens has already begun, Prime Minister Shah announced.

He stated that this process paves the way for identifying genuine landless individuals and guiding them towards secure housing in an organized and transparent manner.

He further mentioned that arrangements will be made for the safe and organized relocation of citizens residing in unsafe areas, particularly those living in life-threatening conditions.

For other landless citizens, the government will make necessary decisions based on the recommendations of the relevant commission and the collected data, he clarified.

Prime Minister Shah emphasized that this step is not aimed at displacing citizens but at ensuring their right to housing and finding a permanent solution to the problem.

Therefore, he urged all citizens not to fall into any kind of confusion, panic, or spread misinformation.

He assured that the government is committed to ensuring safe and dignified housing for every landless citizen and will prevent any situation where citizens become homeless.
