Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah has expressed a firm commitment to freeing Nepal’s educational institutions and bureaucracy from the grip of partisan politics.

Addressing the longstanding issue of “party-ization”, the government has taken new reform measures through an ordinance, as announced by the Prime Minister on social media.

He noted that public trust in the system has eroded as students and employees have become “sleeper cells” for political parties. He emphasized that merit and capability will now be the primary criteria.

According to Prime Minister Shah, the National Independent Party and the current government have decided to completely ban party flags in educational institutions and party affiliations in the bureaucracy.

This step is not due to an inability to organize, but rather a response to past bitter experiences where adding another partisan organization did not preserve the quality of education or the dignity of employees.

He asserted that appointments, transfers, and promotions will be based entirely on procedure, competence, and performance, rather than political proximity.

The Prime Minister stressed that students should learn from teachers and based on culture and ideas, rather than from a crowd of political leaders.

Similarly, he believes that employees should focus on the rule of law and serving the people, instead of seeking the shelter of any political party. He stated that this initiative is not against any particular political party but is an effort to build an “institutional path” to save the overall system and the country’s future.

Expressing confidence that change comes through concrete decisions, not speeches, Prime Minister Shah stated that the government has chosen the ordinance route to eliminate these distortions in line with the general public’s wishes.

He pledged to free the country from partisan capture and work for the benefit of the Nepali people, seeking the support and trust of all citizens for this historic reform.
