PHC begins hearing on complaints against prospective CJ Karki

Kathmandu, 15 June: The The Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) has begun hearing on complaints filed against Hari Krishna Karki who has been recommended for the post of the Chief Justice (CJ) by the Constitutional Council (CC) on 8th May.

The Committee’s meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday had scheduled discussion with complainants on Tuesday and hearing on Wednesday.

As per the schedule, the Committee on Tuesday discussed with thirty-eight complainants- seven complainants presented individually and the rest collectively.

The Committee that had called for complaints against Karki by providing a 10 days’ window which ended on 9th June received twenty-nine complaints against acting CJ Karki from thirty-eight complainants.

Karki has been serving as the acting CJ for almost 15 months after political parties registered an impeachment motion against CJ Cholendra Shumsher Rana leading to his suspension till his retirement in September.
