Kathmandu – The parliamentary hearing process for the appointment of Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma as Chief Justice has formally commenced. The Parliamentary Hearing Committee, in its meeting on Tuesday, advanced the necessary procedures regarding the proposed Chief Justice’s action plan and the complaints received against him.

Addressing the meeting, Committee Chairperson Bodhnarayan Shrestha provided information on the management and distribution of complaints received against Dr. Sharma. The Secretariat has been instructed to maintain the confidentiality of complaints classified as ‘confidential’ by removing the complainants’ names (coding them) before making them available for study by the members.

Additionally, the committee has urged lawmakers and journalists to maintain the confidentiality of these sensitive complaints. In accordance with Clause 19 of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee’s Procedure 2083, Dr. Sharma has presented his action plan to the committee. The details of this action plan have been distributed to committee members for study, and the Secretariat has been directed to provide a digital copy of the plan as per members’ requests.

To streamline the hearing process, the committee has also outlined future directions. This includes discussing the complaints, inviting complainants to the committee, and completing the hearing by inviting the proposed candidate. Members have begun expressing their views on the proposed action plan. The committee will make a final decision on whether to approve Dr. Sharma’s nomination after a detailed discussion on his qualifications, capabilities, and future plans.
