Kathmandu — Communist Party of Nepal – Unified Marxist Leninist  Chair KP Sharma Oli said that the democratic rights and freedoms we enjoy today were made possible by the seeds of movement sown by martyrs.

In a greeting message on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day today, he remembered the four brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for democracy in 1940 B.S.*.

Chairman Oli emphasized that Martyrs’ Day should not be limited to just a date on the calendar.

He wrote, “Looking at it from the present time, this day may seem like just a date, but when we look back at the past, it becomes clear how great a sacrifice was made to attain the freedom we currently enjoy.”

Referring to the cruelty of the Rana regime and the death sentences they faced, Oli mentioned how Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand, and Gangalal Shrestha raised their voices for democracy, adding that that very struggle laid the foundation for establishing democratic rights.

He portrayed the current political achievements as important outcomes of the joint movement by the Communists and the Congress.

Chairman Oli expressed heartfelt tributes to the immortal martyrs while pledging to protect national sovereignty and democracy.
