NRB’s first governor Rana dies aged 95

The first governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of Nepal, Himalaya Shumsher Rana, passed away at the age of 95.

Rana passed away early morning Sunday while being treated at Norvic International Hospital in Thapathali, according to family sources.

He had long been suffering from pneumonia and pulmonary complications and was admitted at the hospital few days ago.

The first Finance Secretary of Nepal, Rana, was lately active as a prominent leader of the civil society of Nepal. He was the founder of Himalaya Bank and General Election Observation Committee (GEOC).

The funeral is said to be held at the Pashupati Aryaghat today.
