Kathmandu— Education and Sports Minister Sasmita Pokharel has announced plans to introduce new regulations to oversee campuses affiliated with foreign universities.

Speaking at an event on Sunday, she mentioned that numerous complaints have been received regarding colleges affiliated with foreign universities, prompting the move to bring in regulations. According to her, the Ministry of Education has prepared a draft of the regulations and forwarded it to the Ministries of Finance and Law for review.

She stated that after receiving approval and feedback from these ministries, the draft will be presented to the Cabinet. She noted that colleges affiliated with foreign universities have not been effectively regulated. The regulations aim to clarify the criteria for granting affiliations to colleges and the framework for their regulation.

While Nepali universities and colleges are under regulation, those with foreign affiliations have not been systematically regulated, she said. The Ministry of Education is currently advancing three sets of regulations simultaneously.

These include the Education Regulations, regulations related to the regulation of educational consultancy institutions, and regulations concerning colleges affiliated with foreign universities.

She also informed that since the Education Act could not be introduced in the current session of Parliament, the Education Regulations are being advanced.
