Kathmandu, 01 Nov: In a major diplomatic setback, Nepal today lost its bid for the Regional Director of World Health Organization South East Asia.

Dr. Shambhu Acharya from Nepal, lost to Saima Wazed, candidate from Bangladesh, who also happens to be the daughter of Prime minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed.

Eight countries stood in favor of Wazed with just two supporting Nepal.

India threw its weight behind Salma Wazed much against its commitment given to Nepal five years ago when Dr Poonam Khetrapal was running for the second term.
