Kathmandu — The government has formed an “Emergency Response Team” to protect Nepali citizens amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The move comes in response to the deteriorating security situation in the region, officials said.

The team, chaired by Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, was created to ensure the safety, coordination, and, if necessary, evacuation of Nepali nationals in countries affected by the crisis.

The decision was made at a ministerial meeting on Tuesday, government spokesperson Ramkaji Khadka said. The team will continuously monitor developments, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and advise the government on appropriate actions, including evacuation if required.

Officials also said diplomatic coordination with friendly countries and international institutions has been intensified. The committee includes representatives from the ministries of Home Affairs, Finance, Law and Justice, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Education, Science and Technology, and Labour, Employment and Social Security, as well as the Department of Foreign Employment, Immigration Department, Consular Services Department, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.

Letters have been sent to relevant agencies to nominate their representatives, and the team has already begun its operations.
