The Salary and Allowance Review Committee has recommended increasing the salaries of government employees by up to 57 percent. The committee, chaired by Chief Secretary Sumanraj Aryal, has suggested this hike for the upcoming fiscal year.

The committee has also advised the government to set the minimum and maximum salary limits for government employees, taking into account the current inflation and existing legal provisions. It has recommended a 27 percent salary increase for lower-level employees, such as office assistants, and a 56.71 percent increase for the highest-level employees, including the Chief Secretary.

Currently, office assistants earn a salary of NPR 27,612, which the committee has suggested raising to NPR 35,000. Similarly, the Chief Secretary’s salary, currently at NPR 77,211, is recommended to be increased to NPR 121,000.

Previously, then Finance Minister Janardan Sharma had increased government employees’ salaries by 15 percent in the fiscal year 2079/80. Since then, there has been no further increase in salaries.

The government is set to present the budget for the upcoming fiscal year on Jestha 15.
