Nepal has emphasized the need to strengthen the United Nations development system, considering it essential for ensuring multilateralism. At a discussion held at the UN headquarters titled “The Future of Multilateralism: Building the UN Development System for Post-2030,” Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Lok Bahadur Thapa, stressed the importance of enhancing the UN development system to address challenges and opportunities beyond 2030.

According to Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Thapa stated that the development system should be fortified not only for the implementation of the remaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also to encompass future challenges and opportunities.

He emphasized that the UN development system should be made more effective not just through institutional structures but also through partnerships and solidarity. Thapa highlighted that without the active participation of civil society, youth, academia, local governments, the private sector, and other stakeholders, it would be impossible to build an effective and relevant development system for the future.

Ambassador Thapa underscored that decisions made today would play a crucial role in constructing an effective and result-oriented multilateral system for future generations, and he stressed the need to further strengthen international cooperation.
