Nepal and Thailand discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in various sectors

Kathmandu – Nepal’s Ambassador to Thailand, Dhan Bahadur Oli, held a meeting with Urasa Mongkolnavin, the Director General of the Department of South Asia, Middle East, and Africa Affairs under Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Thursday.

During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the close and friendly relations between Nepal and Thailand. They discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest such as trade, investment, tourism, culture, agriculture, and education, according to the Nepalese Embassy in Bangkok.

They also reviewed the implementation status of eight agreements concluded between Nepal and Thailand last year, emphasizing the need for effective execution of these agreements. Discussions were held on swiftly finalizing the proposed bilateral agreements on agricultural cooperation and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

Both parties exchanged views on organizing the upcoming meeting of the Nepal-Thailand Joint Consultation Mechanism in Nepal at a mutually convenient time as soon as possible.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of enhancing trade complementarity between Nepal and Thailand, strengthening the value chain of Nepalese and Thai products, and adding value through the integration of goods and services based on Himalayan and marine resources.

Both sides agreed to facilitate the visa process on a reciprocal basis, improve tourism services, and strengthen cooperation in exchanging information and intelligence to combat human trafficking, money laundering, and cybercrime.

Furthermore, the embassy’s statement noted that both parties committed to enhancing cooperation in regional and multilateral forums and supporting each other’s candidacies in international platforms.
