The National Human Rights Commission has concluded that the Gen Z movement, which was supposed to be peaceful on Bhadra 23 and 24, turned into a riot after Sudhan Gurung took the lead.

Releasing the report of the investigation committee led by commission member Lily Thapa on Thursday, the commission raised several questions about Gurung’s involvement. Gurung, a former Home Minister, is not part of Gen Z.

The commission concluded that Gurung and his team, wearing T.O.B. insignia, should be investigated for their involvement in the Gen Z movement. On the 23rd, at around 12 noon, Gurung led the Gen Z group that had gathered in front of Everest Hotel in New Baneshwar.

The commission found that the protest escalated into a confrontation. The report states, “After approximately 20-25 thousand people gathered in front of Everest Hotel, Sudhan Gurung of ‘Hami Nepal’ was seen leading the crowd around 12 noon. Following his lead, the protesters became agitated, broke through security barricades, entered a restricted area, and clashed with security personnel, turning the protest into a riot. Subsequently, security forces used tear gas and water cannons.”

The report also mentions that before the confrontation, a biker group wearing T.O.B. T-shirts and tattoos incited the crowd.

The commission questioned the presence of tents, health volunteers, and three ambulances at the protest site, arranged by Gurung, for a demonstration that was claimed to be peaceful.
