Martyrs day being observed today

Kathmandu: Magh 16 is celebrated as Martyr’s day to pay homage to all those who had sacrificed their lives for the establishment of democracy and freedom in different time spans.

Martyr’s week has been observed from 10-16 Magh. On the 16th of Magh, marked as Martyr’s day, various programs across the nation are organized to pay tribute to all known and unknown Martyrs.

Prime Minister, Ministers, Senior leaders for various parties, Security officials including many others pay homage to Martyrs at Martyr Memorial Lainchaur, Kathmandu.

Different organizations and individuals are visiting “Sahid Gate” to express appreciation for all the heroic contributions made by Martyrs.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has paid tribute to all known and unknown martyrs, including Sukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dasharath Chand and Gangalal Shrestha, who sacrificed their precious lives for civil liberty, establishment of democracy and protection of nationality.

President Bhandari, through her message on Martyr’s day stated that it is the contribution of Martyr that we are enjoying the freedom and rights. According to her, our initiatives towards sustainable peace, good governance, development and prosperity would be a true tribute to the martyrs.

Likewise, issuing a message, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), stating today is a day to pay special respect to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the self-respect and freedom of Nepal and Nepali people, has expressed his commitment to dedicate his entire life for the cause of the country and its people.
