Martyr Day being observed across nation

Kathmandu, Jan 30: The Martyr Day is being observed across the country honoring the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the nation and welfare of the people.

A morning rally is being organized from Shanti Batika, Ratnapark to Lainchaur which would be attended by the Prime Minister, ministers, high level officials of Nepal government, along with march-past from security bodies according to Kathmandu Metropolis.

The known and unknown martyrs would be paid tribute at the martyrs’ monument, Lainchaur.

Different organizations and individuals are visiting “Sahid Gate” to express appreciation for all the heroic contributions made by Martyrs.

Magh 16, marked as Martyr Day, is celebrated every year organizing various programmes in commemoration of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment and restoration of democracy and freedom in different times.

The Day is observed by remembering the struggling life and devotion of martyrs, Shukra Raj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dasharath Chand and Ganga Lal Shrestha as well as contributions of other martyrs to the establishment of democracy in the country.

In 1997, Martyr Shukra Raj Shastri was executed in Teku-based Pachali- on Mag 10, Dharma Bhakta Mathema at Shifal on Magh 13 and Gangla Lal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand at Shobha Bhagawati on Magh 15 by Rana ruler while demanding democracy, civic rights and liberty.

 In commemoration and tribute to them, week-long programmes are organized from Magh 10 to 16 every year which concludes by celebrating the Martyr Day today.
