Man kills wife in Jhapa’s Haldibari after domestic dispute escalates

In Jhapa’s Haldibari Rural Municipality, a man has brutally murdered his own wife due to a domestic dispute. The incident occurred near Dhanushpokhari in Ward No. 5 of Haldibari, where a minor argument escalated, leading to the wife’s death on the spot from her husband’s attack.

According to local residents, Ganesh Bhandari, also known as Gokarna, and his 33-year-old wife, Urmila Bhandari, had been having domestic disputes for a long time. Last night, around 9 PM, after Gokarna returned home under the influence of alcohol, another argument ensued. In the heat of the moment, as the dispute intensified, Gokarna struck Urmila on the head with a sharp weapon.

After committing the murder, Gokarna went to a neighbor’s house and confessed to the crime. Upon his admission, the locals immediately informed the police, who then took him into custody.

Urmila was Gokarna’s second wife, following his divorce from his first wife. The Bhandari couple had a daughter and a son. With their mother brutally murdered and their father in police custody, the innocent children are left in a dire situation.

Bhandari, who was arrested immediately after the incident, is being held at the District Police Office in Jhapa for further investigation and legal proceedings. Meanwhile, the police have stated that Urmila’s body has been sent to the Provincial Hospital in Bhadrapur for post-mortem examination.
