Madhesh Province: 90 Police Stations Damaged in Gen-Z Movement

Janakpurdham — During the Gen-Z movement in Madhesh Province, police stations that had been partially or completely damaged have now resumed operations.

On Bhadrā 23, when the Gen-Z protests swept across the country, 90 police stations in Madhesh Province were damaged. The Provincial Police Office of Madhesh in Janakpurdham has stated that the stations damaged by arson and vandalism have since been restored.

According to Kamal Thapa, Senior Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the Madhesh Province Police Office, 13 police stations were completely destroyed and 77 stations suffered partial damage during the protests.

He reported that the total damage to police stations amounts to NPR 73,122,400. The most affected district was Dhanusha, which saw the most police stations damaged.

Including the District Traffic Police Office, 23 police stations were damaged in Dhanusha. Likewise, 20 in Sarlahi, 14 in Siraha, 12 in Rautahat, 11 in Parsa, 6 in Saptari, 3 in Bara, and 1 in Mahottari suffered damage.

Due to the arson and vandalism during the protests, losses amounting to NPR 20,678,380 were recorded. According to the provincial police, 8 four-wheeled vehicles and 25 two-wheeled vehicles were completely destroyed, while 14 four-wheeled and 2 two-wheeled vehicles sustained partial damage.

Police reported that during the protests, arson and vandalism affected a total of 207 government offices across Madhesh Province. Eighty-four police officers and 12 civilians were injured during the protests, and one person died.
