LMC’s crackdown on street vending (Pictures)

Kathmandu, 17 March: Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) has begun regulating and removing the business from the streets on the model being pursued by the Kathmandu metropolitan under Mayor Balendra Shah ‘Balen’.

The City Police went aggressive and removed some business activities on the streets on Sunday.

They dismantled the vending stalls and small shops in Nakkhu area without offering them an alternate site.

The vendors stationed there complained of an evacuation drive without any alternative.

‘The [city] police warned us to evacuate three days prior with no alternative’, a fruit vendor whose stall was demolished said.

The crackdown approach at street vending by Kathmandu Municipality had stirred several rounds of protest demonstrations from the street vendors.
