Kathmandu — The Fourth National Agricultural Biodiversity Day 2082 will be observed under the theme “Agricultural Biological Diversity, Our Precious Heritage: Youth Participation in Conservation, Use and Promotion.” The Department of Agriculture is preparing to organize a series of events as part of an “Agricultural Biological Diversity Week,” beginning on 1 Magh and continuing for a week.

On the day of the celebration, a ‘Agricultural Biodiversity and Agriculture Fair’ will be held at the garden premises in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu on Thursday. More than 80 commercial stalls are expected to participate, showcasing traditional agricultural products, local foods and heritage farming techniques.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and organizers expect 10,000 to 15,000 visitors to attend. Around 30 to 50 lakh rupees worth of business transactions are projected during the event.

The event is jointly organized by agencies at the federal, provincial and local levels, including government and nongovernmental organizations and the private sector. The main goals are to raise public awareness about the importance of agricultural biodiversity, encourage its sustainable conservation and use, and emphasize the value chain development of indigenous crops and products.
