Kathmandu—Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, and Federal Affairs and General Administration, Pratibha Rawal, has announced that land ownership certificates will be distributed to displaced squatters starting from the third week of Ashadh.

During a session of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, she informed that the government is preparing to distribute these certificates from the third week of Ashadh in response to questions raised by lawmakers regarding the ministry’s budget.

In the budget discussion, Harkaraj Rai, chairperson of the Labour Culture Party, questioned when the management of squatters would take place and raised concerns about the allocation of land.

Responding to this, Rawal stated, “We have already begun work on the land ownership certificates. We will start distributing them from the third week of Ashadh.”

Rai also mentioned in the same parliamentary session that displaced squatters housed in holding centers are not receiving basic services, suggesting that they could be relocated to their previous locations under an urban plan.

Squatters from Thapathali and Gairigaun, currently residing in the Radhaswami Satsang building in Kirtipur, did not receive food on Monday morning.

Despite this, the government has not managed to arrange food provisions. Kathmandu Metropolitan City has tasked an organization with providing food.

However, the squatters have not been able to access services such as medical treatment.
