Residents in Lakshminiya Rural Municipality, Dhanusha, have blocked the road in protest after authorities failed to arrest the individual involved in a motorcycle accident that claimed the life of an elderly woman.

Locals obstructed the Janakpur-Dhalkebar road section in Lakshminiya on Friday morning for about an hour and a half by burning tires. They demanded the identification and arrest of the person involved in the accident and compensation for the victim’s family.

On Wednesday morning, 65-year-old Marnidevi Mahara from Lakshminiya Rural Municipality-7 was hit by a motorcycle. She succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

According to the deceased’s son, Mukesh Mahara, his mother was crossing the road to go to the fields when she was struck by a motorcycle carrying two people. The motorcyclist fled the scene after the accident.

Locals report that identifying the person involved in the accident has been challenging due to malfunctioning CCTV cameras installed at various locations by the Madhesh government and Lakshminiya Rural Municipality.
