As the great Nepali festival of Bada Dashain approaches, Kathmandu is gradually emptying out.

Citizens who had come to the federal capital Kathmandu for education or employment have returned to their villages for Dashain.

As a result, traffic congestion on the valley’s roads has thinned. By this morning, over 500,000 people have left Kathmandu.

For those still in the valley, the roads have become less crowded since government offices are closed, and there’s no pressing need to go out.
