Jhapa prisoner dies during treatment after breathing difficulties

A prisoner in Jhapa has died.

Chandrakumar Ghimire, a 64-year-old originally from the former Nagi VDC-9 in Panchthar and currently serving a sentence in Jhapa District Prison on charges of rape, passed away this morning.

On Thursday evening at 5 PM, he experienced difficulty breathing and was taken to the Provincial Hospital in Bhadrapur for treatment. From there, he was transferred to Om Sai Pathibhara Hospital in Bhadrapur at 9:45 PM for further care.

While being treated in the ICU of the same hospital, he was referred to B&C Hospital in Birtamod at 8:50 PM on the advice of doctors.

He died during treatment at 3:45 AM today, according to police. His body remains at the same hospital.

Ghimire had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the rape case and had already served 8 years, 8 months, and 1 day of his sentence.
