Ivory Coast made a triumphant return to the FIFA World Cup after 12 years, starting their campaign on a high note. In their first match of Group ‘E’ held in Philadelphia, America, they secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Ecuador, earning three important points.

The match was largely goalless until the 90th minute when Amad Diallo scored the decisive goal for Ivory Coast. Coming on as a substitute, Amad capitalized on an excellent run by Wilfried Singo, skillfully directing the ball into the net with his left foot.

This goal ended Ecuador’s nearly two-year unbeaten streak of 19 matches. The decision not to include Ivory Coast’s star winger Amad in the starting lineup surprised many, but he justified the coach’s faith by scoring the last-minute winner.

With this victory, Ivory Coast has strengthened their chances of advancing to the knockout stage from Group ‘E’, which also includes Germany and Curaçao. Ivory Coast aims to reach the World Cup knockout stage for the first time.

Ecuador experienced some misfortune during the match. In the first half, shots from Johan Aboya and Alan Minda hit the bar, missing potential leads. In the second half, experienced forward Enner Valencia’s excellent effort also struck the post, adding to their bad luck.

Ivory Coast created limited opportunities as well. Early in the second half, a shot by Elly Wahy hit the bar. Under coach Sebastian Bekasi, Ecuador had kept clean sheets in 12 of their last 19 matches, effectively controlling Ivory Coast’s attack, especially their star players. However, Amad Diallo’s magical goal in the final minute of regulation time nullified all their plans.
