Iranian activist Narges awarded Nobel Peace Prize 2023

Kathmandu, 06 Oct: Narges Mohammadi has won the Nobel Peace Prize 2023 “for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.”

Narges, a woman, a human rights advocate, and a freedom fighter, is still in prision according to The Norwegian Nobel Committee, the Peace Prize awarding body.

Her brave struggle for freedom of expression and the right of independence has come with tremendous personal costs. Altogether, the regime in Iran has arrested her 13 times, convicted her five times, and sentenced her to a total of 31 years in prison and 154 lashes, it added.

“We hope that this prize is an inspiration for women all over the world that are victims of systematic discrimination and segregation in their home countries,” said Berit Reiss-Andersen, Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
