Kathmandu: President of the Federation of Nepalese Industries and Commerce (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has said that the interim government led by Sushila Karki has an opportunity to carry out policy reforms.

Speaking at a programme organized in Kathmandu on Monday to mark International Customs Day, Dhakal said a non-partisan government is better positioned to implement policy reforms than a party-led government. For that reason, he noted, the present government has an appropriate window to pursue such reforms.

He pointed out that in the past, policy decisions were often delayed due to political infighting within party-led governments. Dhakal also praised the interim government, saying that commendable work is being carried out under the leadership of Finance Minister Dr. Rameshwar Khanal.

He added that while the government should prioritize revenue generated through customs, it must do so in a way that does not hamper the development of entrepreneurship. Dhakal further expressed concern that although the government recognizes hotels and tourism as industries, the sector does not receive the same facilities and incentives provided to other industries.
