Indian national arrested for murder of woman found in sack in Jhapa

In Jhapa’s Damak, the mystery surrounding the discovery of a woman’s body in a sack has been solved. On Jestha 16, the body of approximately 21-year-old Roma (Rama) Tiwari was found wrapped in a white sack under the bridge of Ratua Khola in Damak Municipality Ward No. 10.

The deceased, a resident of Basanta Tole, Damak-8, was identified by her father, Narayan Tiwari. Following the incident, a police team conducting a detailed investigation successfully arrested an Indian national accused of involvement in the murder.

According to the District Police Office in Jhapa, the arrested individual is Rakesh Kumar Pandit, a 34-year-old tile worker originally from Araria District, Bihar, India, currently residing in Damak-5.

A joint police team from the Koshi Province Police Office in Biratnagar, Nepal Police Province Office in Dharan, and Area Police Office in Damak identified the suspect through technical analysis, close surveillance, and study of CCTV footage from the vicinity of the crime scene.

Under the command of Deputy Superintendent of Police Haribahadur Basnet, the team apprehended Pandit from his rented room on the night of Jestha 21.

During initial questioning, the suspect admitted to killing the victim following a dispute over money. The victim’s mother, Munadevi Tiwari, also identified a pair of slippers found near the crime scene as belonging to her daughter.

Police have seized crucial evidence related to the crime from the suspect, including a blue Honda Shine motorcycle with registration number Me 2 Pa 823 used to meet and transport the victim, and a red-black Apache motorcycle with registration number BR 38 AM 3778 used to dispose of the body.

Additionally, the clothes worn by the suspect during the crime, three mobile phones, and the victim’s slippers have been recovered. A case has been filed against Pandit under sections 12 and 18 of the Muluki Criminal Code 2074 for offenses related to murder and rape.

The District Police Office in Jhapa has stated that the Jhapa District Court has granted a five-day extension for further investigation, which is ongoing at the Area Police Office in Damak.
