Imran Khan receives 10 years’ jail sentence

Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on a cypher case on Tuesday.

“The case pertains to allegations that the former prime minister had made public contents of a secret cable sent by the country’s ambassador in Washington to the government in Islamabad”, reads The News International.

The special court was established under the Official Secrets Act 2023 and Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqarnain carried out hearings of the case in Adiala Jail, it added.

The founder and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) Khan was ousted as Prime Minister in April 2022. He was ruled out taking part in the election scheduled on February 8 due to imprisonment he is currently serving on a corruption case.
